February 4, 2012 - Shot Horse of Texas Association will kick off the 2012 season with a clinic, two days of competition and the annual awards banquet.

The stated purpose of the organization is to make "help people ride a better horse". Their website states that SHOT is dedicated to enhancing the pleasure of owning and riding horses and create better horses and riders in the process.

SHOT offers affordable, fun western stock shows and competitions for any age, any skill level, and any western stock horse.

The Feb. 24 clinic will feature Shawn Hays of Nocona and Chance O'Neal, Will Wallendorf and Dusty Burson of the 6666-Burnett Ranches in Guthrie.

Hays will be the premier cow horse trainer. O'Neal, Wallendorf and Burson will concentrate on reining, train and pleasure.

Competition in the limited non-pro, novice and youth divisions is scheduled for Feb. 25, and the open, non-pro and junior horse divisions will be featured Feb. 26.

Director Kim Lindsey of Jayton was excited about last year's total of 215 entries, including members of seven collegiate teams. The collegiate competition will be held again this year. Texas Tech University will return to defend its team championship.

Information about the association and the upcoming clinic can be found on their website at www.stockhorsetexas.com.
