Four Sixes Ranch Mourns the Loss of Legendary Stallion Paddys Irish Whiskey
GUTHRIE, TEXAS — The Four Sixes Ranch joins the Western performance horse industry in mourning the passing of Paddys Irish Whiskey, one of the most influential sires in the history of the Four Sixes Ranch and the American Quarter Horse.
Foaled in 1991, the bay son of Peppy San Badger and Docs Starlight represented generations of proven cow horse genetics. While he earned respect in the show pen as an NCHA money-earner, his greatest legacy was established in the breeding barn, where he became one of the industry’s most versatile and enduring sires. His offspring excelled across cutting, reined cow horse, ranch horse, reining, tie-down roping, team roping and versatility competition, earning more than $1.8 million in competition earnings, over 5,400 AQHA points, and numerous World and Reserve World Championships.
Purchased by the Paddys Irish Whiskey Syndicate in 1999, “Paddy” quickly established himself as one of the industry’s premier breeding stallions. His ability to consistently sire athleticism, intelligence, trainability and cow sense made him a favorite among horsemen for more than two decades.
For over 20 years, Paddy’s Irish Whiskey stood at the Four Sixes Ranch , where his influence continued through both his own offspring and the generations that followed. His legacy is reflected not only in championship pedigrees but also in countless dependable ranch horses, and family horses carrying his unmistakable qualities.
“Paddys Irish Whiskey was the kind of stallion that left an impact far beyond the show pen,” said Dr. Nathan Canaday, President of Operations for Four Sixes Ranch. “His consistency as a sire, his versatility, and the quality of horses he produced earned the respect of horsemen around the world. He has been an exceptional broodmare sire for our program. With his impeccable confirmation, he was viewed by many as the standard for what a ranch horse should look like. We are grateful to have been part of his story and to have cared for him during so many years of his remarkable life.”
Although his passing marks the end of an era, Paddys Irish Whiskey’s influence will continue for generations through the exceptional horses and bloodlines he leaves behind. His name will forever remain woven into the fabric of the Western performance horse industry, and his legacy will continue to shape the future of the American Quarter Horse.
The Four Sixes Ranch extends its sincere condolences to the Paddys Irish Whiskey Syndicate, the many breeders, owners, riders and fans who admired him throughout his extraordinary career. His impact on the industry will not soon be forgotten.
